JEROMESVILLE, Ohio (1/9/24)--In a tradition that has become a cornerstone of Hillsdale Local Schools, the Student Council for grades 5-8 recently ventured into an inspiring day of leadership development alongside the Columbus Blue Jackets. The annual Student Leadership Day, held on December 5, 2023, proved to be an enriching experience for our young leaders.

The event commenced with engaging leadership development sessions, offering students a unique opportunity to hone their skills in a dynamic environment. As part of the program, they took to the ice on the renowned Blue Jackets' rink, experiencing firsthand the exhilarating thrill of skating in a professional arena.

Adding a layer of educational depth, students delved into a "Hockey 101" session, unraveling the intricacies of the sport and gaining insights into the behind-the-scenes workings of the Columbus Blue Jackets organization. The day culminated in a thought-provoking Q&A session with a distinguished panel of professionals from the Blue Jackets organization.

One standout moment of the day was the recognition of 5th grader Katelyn Coleman, whose insightful questions during the Q&A session earned her a remarkable privilege – a ride on the Zamboni between the 1st and 2nd periods of the evening's hockey game. She was accompanied to the ice by Elise Raubenolt and Mrs. Nikki Blosser, 6th-grade teacher and Student Council co-advisor, who enjoyed a close-up experience of the ice-bound excitement.

Another highlight took place in the heart of the hockey action, as the student council crew found themselves featured on the Jumbotron during the evening's game.
