Making It Personal: A Senator’s Visit to Our Campus

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio--Superintendent Dr. Cathy Trevathan welcomed State Senator Mark Romanchuk (R, District 22) on March 14 to our PK-12 campus to put a personal face on the opportunities and challenges in our schools.

The senator took a tour of our facilities, meeting with staff and students along the way, and learned about the real-life stories behind the policies that shape our future.

A student shared his love for farming, tying his personal experience to the hands-on agriculture classes offered here.

In another corner, a different student proudly showed off a woodworking project—a true example of learning by doing.

Senator Romanchuk even caught a lively 9-12 choir warm-up that filled the halls with energy and catchy tunes.

Our school nurse spotlighted the critical medical safety equipment we maintain, emphasizing the real costs behind keeping our community safe.

Meanwhile, our Curriculum Director explained that although we received a state stipend for a newly mandated curriculum change, much of the expense still fell on our district.

The senator also engaged directly with students, being interviewed for our student-produced news show, Daily Dale, while a yearbook student documented the tour.

These interactions put a face to the issues, highlighting that public education is more than just numbers and policies—it’s about people.

Thank you, Senator Romanchuk, for spending the morning with us. Making connections personal is essential to understanding and supporting the dedicated work happening every day in our public schools.

We hope his visit will highlight the connection between our daily school experiences and the decisions that support our students’ futures.
