Parents’ Bill of Rights (House Bill 8)
Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, Hillsdale Local Schools will implement Ohio’s Parents’ Bill of Rights (HB 8) to strengthen communication and partnership between schools and families.
This law affirms that parents have the fundamental right to make decisions about their child’s education, health, and well-being. Hillsdale’s new policy ensures that parents are:
- Notified of any significant changes in their child’s services or well-being.
- Given the opportunity to review and opt out of instructional materials that include “sexuality content.”
- Informed each year about available health, counseling, and behavioral services, with the option to consent or decline.
- Able to share questions or concerns through a formal written concern process.
Written Concern Procedure
Parents who have a question or concern may submit it in writing to the building principal. The principal will review and respond within 30 days. If the parent disagrees with the outcome, the concern may be appealed to the Superintendent, and, if needed, to the Board of Education for final review.
