Continuous Renewal Levies On Nov. 2024 Ballot
JEROMESVILLE, Ohio--As Hillsdale Local School District approaches the upcoming ballot on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, we are providing information about the levies being voted on, the district’s funding sources, and how taxes are affected.
What Hillsdale Local School District levies are we voting on?
You will see two issues on the ballot: (1) an operating levy and (2) a permanent improvement levy. Both levies are continuous renewals. The district is not asking for additional dollars for either levy.
What does the passage of the operating levy and permanent improvement levy mean for the taxpayer?
Taxpayers passing these levies preserve revenue from Public Utilities (Pipeline), approximately $8.7 million over the next two years. The school district does not receive additional revenue from taxpayers based on these renewals.
Did the increase in the valuation of my home increase my school taxes?
An increase in your home's value does not raise your school taxes. The school district's tax collection from voter-approved levies stays the same, no matter how property values change.
How is Hillsdale paying for the new building?
The construction of the new building was fully funded by public utilities (which includes the Rover Pipeline). No taxpayer funds were used to finance the construction costs.
How do we get money from public utilities?
Public utilities pay 100% of their valuation based on the voter-approved millage, while taxpayers pay 35%. Since the district is asking for a continuous renewal, not new money, the amount collected from taxpayers does not change. Public utilities pay the full voted millage of the original levy, and taxpayers pay the effective rate.
