Free Meals Extended to June 30, 2021

JEROMESVILLE (11/4/20, updated 3/3/21)--The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) extended the nationwide waivers to continue the use of the National School Lunch Seamless Summer Option (SSO) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) through June 30, 2021.

These waivers allow school food authorities (SFAs) to continue to serve free meals to all students.

A la carte items, such as milk for those who pack, second lunches and ice cream, are not covered items under the program.

If there is a balance on a student's lunch account, they may use those funds to purchase extra items or carry it over into the 2021-2022 school year.

The district is asking that families still complete the Free- and Reduced-Lunch application if they have not already done so, though it is not necessary in order to receive the free meals.

  • The instructions for and the link to the application can be found on our website at http://www.hillsdale.k12.oh.us/lunch.
  • Completion of the application could help the district to secure future funding for all of our students.
  • At Hillsdale, if a student is eligible for free- or reduced-meals, school fees are also waived, but families must apply to determine eligibility.

With a return to school for all students five days a week in March, meal deliveries are no longer necessary.

However, for those students who will continue their education through the 100% online option, weekly meal delivery on Wednesdays is still available.

Wednesday, March 3, was the last day for delivery to those who have returned to 100% in-person learning.
