District Prioritizes Health of Students, Community

JEROMESVILLE (3/10/2020)--Hillsdale Local School’s priority every day is to support the success of the whole child, which includes being attentive to students’ health and wellness. A big shout out to our staff and families for the great job you do already with illness prevention. Our staff has been performing deep cleaning of our facilities, something that is done every year during flu season. As a result, during this flu season, the district saw 50% less absences than other area schools.

Rest assured we are staying current on the latest CoronaVirus (COVID-19) information, monitoring Ohio’s status closely and will follow all recommendations from the state and county health departments. As of this time, Ohio has three confirmed cases and the risk of infection in the United States remains “low,” per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As always, school leaders will make decisions that prioritize the health and safety of students, the community and school staff.

In the meanwhile, our teachers and school staff continue to follow best practices as outlined by the Ohio Department of Health for preventing the spread of illness. We also ask that families continue to do their part, including following these practices:

  • Stay home when ill, at least 24-hours fever-free when the body temperature has reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater.

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and place tissue in the trash immediately.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces.

In addition, please make sure your contact information is up to date in case the school needs to pass along information, for this and other matters.

We will continue to update you with information as we know it. We will use the regular means of communication, including the website and its newsletter function and One Call Now messaging system. If you need help signing up for either of these features or have further questions, please contact Superintendent Steve Dickerson at 419-368-8500.
