Air Purifiers Installed in Classrooms

JEROMESVILLE (2/17/21)--Hillsdale Schools is excited about placing COVID-19-rated air purifiers in each of our classrooms. This is one of several items that needed to be completed prior to the full return of students to their classrooms in March.

These particular units are rated for the COVID-19 virus.

Recently when the demand from the health field caught up with the supply, we ordered these units. Though delivery of the 80 units was not expected until around March 1, they were delivered early on February 15 and were installed in the classrooms that day.

The machines improve the air changes by double of the CDC's recommended amount of two air changes per hour in classrooms to mitigate COVID-19.

The details of these air purifiers are explained below.

  • With both Hillsdale's current HVAC systems and the Austin Air HealthMate Plus®, there will be five air changes per hour in our 600 sq. ft. classrooms and four air changes per hour in our 875 sq. ft. classrooms on the medium setting, taking only one hour or less to achieve a 99% removal rate
  • The Austin Air HealthMate Plus® effectively removes bacteria and aerosolized viruses larger than 0.1 micron. It also eliminates a wide range of gases, chemicals, VOC’s and formaldehyde.
  • Medical Grade HEPA effectively removes 95% of airborne viruses and other contaminants that are 0.1 microns and larger
  • Designed for highly contaminated indoor air conditions
  • Extremely effective at removing particles in the air including elements of dust and pollens
  • Exceptional capacity for removing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and filters bacteria
  • Those with pre-existing health concerns or individuals suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) reap benefits of improved air quality
  • Reduces the viral load to lower the risk of infection or severity of disease
  • Eases coughing, wheezing and sneezing
  • Reduces dry mouth and runny nose
