2019-20 Million Words Club

Erin Crider

KAILYN MONEER and KORI VESPER, HMS Video Journalism students, report: Erin Crider is a sixth grade student at HMS who recently reached one million words. She enjoys reading fiction books of all sorts. Her favorite book is Serafina and the Splintered Heart by Robert Beatty. She definitely wants to get to two million words by the end of the year.

Cade Hawley

KAILYN MONEER, HMS Video Journalism student, reports: Cade Hawley is a sixth grade student at HMS who recently reached one million words. He enjoys reading fantasy novels. His favorite book to read is Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis. He definitely wants to get to two million words by the end of the year.

Hayden Gerber

KAILYN MONEER, HMS Video Journalism student, reports: Hayden Gerber is a sixth grade student at HMS who recently reached one million words. She enjoys reading fiction books of all sorts. Her favorite book series is "Cinder" by Marissa Meyer. She definitely wants to get to two million words by the end of the year.

Ms. Tiki Peterson

KEIRA FILIUS, HMS Video Journalism student, reports: Ms. Peterson said that her favorite book was The Giver by Lois Lowry. Ms Peterson is a fifth grade science teacher at HMS. She read about 19 books throughout the year.

Kailyn Moneer

TIMBER BANKS, HMS Video Journalism student, reports: Kailyn Moneer is an eighth grade student at HMS who reached her goal of one million words! Her favorite genre to read is romance. She really enjoys reading. At the end of her goal, she felt great. Kailyn explains that she "didn't have to push" herself to reach the goal. "It was easy," she said. The books she read to meet her goal were those in the "Selection" series by Kiera Cass.

Hailey Stow

JACEY SERMULIS, HMS Video Journalism student, reports: Hailey Stow was one of the top readers in our school with over 2,000,000 words read last year. She is currently reading a book called A Silent Voice by Yoshitoki Ōima. Her favorite book right now is either Alice in Wonderland or her current book, A Silent Voice. Hailey said that her favorite genres to read are fantasy and romance, and she averages reading about 75 books per school year.

Mrs. Jenny Stump

KAYDANCE HENDERSON-SCHNEITER, HMS Video Journalism student, reports: [Middle School science teacher] Mrs. [Jenny] Stump's favorite genre is mystery, although she has been reading more nonfiction lately. Her favorite book is Code of Honor by Alan Gratz. Her favorite author, however, is either Tess Gerritsen or John Grisham. "Reading is a great escape and a great way to explore and learn new things,” [she said]. 

Mrs. Violet Gilmore

KAYDANCE HENDERSON-SCHNEITER, HMS Video Journalism student, reports: [Middle School Librarian] Mrs. [Violet] Gilmore's favorite genre is realistic fiction and her favorite book is Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae. She likes too many authors to list but is currently reading Cindy Woodsmall. She says she loves to read and does every chance she gets. She rarely reads more than one book at a time.
