Superintendent's Message Nov. 6

JEROMESVILLE (11/6/20)--Dear Falcon Families,

Prioritizing student and staff health, we are continually monitoring the current pandemic as it relates to our schools. In the best interest of student and staff safety, we will continue with the hybrid model due to the recent surge in COVID cases and, more importantly, the number of individuals being quarantined in our district. I plan to remain with this model throughout the surge.

Many of you filled out a recent survey expressing your level of comfort at that time of having your children return to in-person instruction five days a week. The results showed 62% of parents were comfortable with their children being at school each weekday.

Since then, though, Ohio and Hillsdale have seen an increase in COVID cases. I have been getting phone calls from families to let me know that they are no longer comfortable with their children moving to daily in-person instruction even though they answered that way on the survey.

If all of our students had been in our buildings full time, then the number of students and staff being quarantined would have been significantly higher due to our inability to implement social distancing in our buildings.

Thank you for reaching out with your concerns. Even though it is everyone's wish to be back to normal with 100% in-person instruction, it is my responsibility to do so only when it is safe for our students and staff.

Looking ahead, we will be offering tutoring provided by our district staff over winter break from December 28 through December 30 in the morning for those who would like additional support. More information will be shared as details are finalized.

In the meanwhile, I ask that you please keep ill children at home and encourage you and your family to follow the established COVID protocols.

Be safe and stay Falcon strong!

Mr. Steve Dickerson

Superintendent

Hillsdale Local School District
