Dear Falcon Families,

I am excited to let you know that we will be returning to regular attendance five days a week on March 1 for grades K through four and on March 8 for grades five through twelve. This staggered return allows for additional PPE and transportation concerns to be addressed. Masks will still be required.

I can empathize with the frustration many of you are feeling, and I recognize and applaud the sacrifices made. Please know that every decision I have made has been to provide the safest learning environment for our students and staff. We have constantly monitored our district and county COVID numbers and have noticed a significant drop in cases since January 19. Along with the addition of air scrubbers and the upcoming first round of staff vaccinations, we are able to meet the governor’s order to return to full attendance five days a week.

I apologize for what was viewed as a lack of transparency. There have been many moving pieces that were necessary to have in place before this return could happen. For example, the vaccination timeline and air scrubber delivery were two of the main points. I realize now that a list of the moving pieces would have been useful for people to understand the process of a full and safe return.

For further information on the air scrubbers, vaccinations, updated bus routines, and PPE, please see our website COVID-19 page, where all the current information concerning plan A, our full return, will be updated and published by the end of the day on Friday, February 19.

I respectfully ask for your ongoing support and understanding as we continue to move through a time unlike any of us have seen. Though it will still look different for a while, we are nearly at a point where our district will return to a more familiar routine.

Stay Falcon strong!

Sincerely,

Mr. Steve Dickerson
Superintendent
Hillsdale Local Schools
