Resources In Response to the Pandemic

  •   Goodnight with Dolly: A YouTube channel where the iconic singer reads Imagination Library titles Thursdays at 7 PM during the 2020 pandemic. Previously recorded videos are also available.

  •  Stay at Home Story Time with Oliver Jeffers

  • Dav Pilkey at Home posts a free online video series with read-alouds, drawing lessons and activities. There are also .pdf e-books of some of his books.

  • Children's Author Kate Messner shares a Spring 2020 Resource List for grades preK-12 that includes her and other authors reading their books aloud.

  • #SaveWithStories (facebook) and #SaveWithStories (Instagram) is a partnership between No Kid Hungry and Save the Children US created by actresses Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams to "provide a little fun, a little education, and a little distraction to kids and parents." (Note: They are raising money to provide food and educational tools for the over 30 million children who depend on getting them at school. However, you don't have to donate to watch the videos.)

Classicly.com has titles available in many genres including, Young Readers and Myths and Fairytales.

 

 Visit DayByDayOH.org – a website for young children and their families, featuring a song, a video, activities, and book recommendations for every day of the year! DayByDayOH, a service of the State Library of Ohio in collaboration with Ohio Ready to Read, also includes literacy and health information and an Ohio public library locator map.

 

 Junior Library Guild Free Online Resources

 

 Open Library: Part of the nonprofit Internet Archive, this site offers access to over 34,000 children's books, both classic and modern titles.

 

 International Children's Digital Library hosts a collection of books that represents historical and contemporary titles from around the world.

 

  Oxford Owl Free e-Book Library provides free e-books that they recommend for ages 3-11, though at the older level, the classics would appeal to older readers also.

 

 INFOhio  Through the state's preK-12 virtual library, access, among others including storytelling :

 

StoryPlace: The Children's Digital Library from Charlotte Mecklenburg Library offers online stories and virtual storytimes, in addition to activities and reading lists in English and Spanish.

 

Ezra Jack Keats for Kids shares animated read-alouds of Keats' stories, along with related activities and games.

 

  Storyline Online: streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books

 

Julie's Library: Story Time with Julie Andrews A new podcast beginning April 29, 2020, Julie and her daughter, children’s author and educator Emma Walton Hamilton, invite you into their library to read their favorite children's books. Every story comes to life with sound, music and activities. Authors, kids and other special guests chime in, too! It’s a show that will inspire lively conversations and a lifelong love of reading.

 

Read Along with PBS Kids  The PBS Kids YouTube channel has put together this playlist of fan favorite titles and narrators, including former First Lady Michelle Obama.

 

 Storytime at the Met The Metropolitan Museum of Art provides read-alouds on their YouTube channel found on this playlist.
